Colors TCG 7th Anniversary - Day 19

Hi everyone, this year's Anniversary is coming to an end soon but today we're going to watch some anime! Or read some manga if you prefer.

First, go to Crunchyroll or Random Anime. You can also use any other site that has a "random result" button. If you'd rather read manga instead, any site that allows you to randomly choose a series will do (the one that starts with a B for example).

Pick a series at random. You may repeat this step if you get something you already know or something that obviously isn't your thing. If it's an anime, watch the first epsode (or at least 5-10 minutes of it). If it's a manga, read the first chapter. Then post your impressions and if you'd ike to continue watching/reading in at least 2-3 sentences.

Please use the following form:

For sharing your thoughts you'll get luckyseven19, one choice character card and one choice special which you can take immediately. You'll also receive five random cards.

This game (and all other anniversary games) close July 1st, noon GMT!

How was it? I was a little taken aback by the art style at first, because I don't think it's ugly but it's definitely not my kind of aesthetically pleasing... that said, I did like the detail. I only watch the first five minutes because I have a terrible attention span and I don't think I'd continue watching it because, again, terrible attention span, but I did think the plot seemed quite interesting! I saw a lot of comments on Crunchyroll saying that it was one of the best anime they'd ever seen, so I imagine it has a lot of potential, and I'd probably enjoying watching it if I could find the time and focus for it. I liked the opening too!

How was it? err.. not really my type. it's very shounen, in the naruto and bleach kind of way and that doesn't really appeal to me anymore. the artstyle is kinda refreshing though, but it seems like a lot is going on, which made it a bit hard for me too follow. all in all i think it would appeal to people who are really into typical shounen jump series!

How was it? I watched the first ten minutes and the art style and sound quality are too dated for my liking, so that's kind of a big turn off for me. I know it's an old anime so that can't be helped, but still. :V I also found it a bit hard to follow but that could be because I'm running on like no sleep right now, oops...... However, I did like the opening song a lot!

How was it? This reads Ecchi/Harem and I'm not too fond of that genre but I decided to try it out. It's okay. There's some action, the art is pretty. 8 minutes in and I'm greeted with underwear and boob shots. Not a big fan. The plot is a bit unpredictable. It scored pretty well on Myanimelist and I'm sure if you like harem this is the show for you. People have mentioned that this show has a good plot but ehhh...not too interested anymore. The opening is definitely pretty though! Love the music!

How was it? I went ahead and let this one play, because I know someone who does watch it. Kind of convinced that I was right that I wouldn't be interested. Like, the premise is okay, I guess? I don't mind the underdogs leveling up to badass. But oh, the fanservice. Or, should I say, the animation of gorgeous girl in contrast to buff burly "strong" men. The best part (for me) is badass Miu, but I can already guess that eventually Kenichi is going to overshine her which. Eh. Not really interested in seeing more.

How was it? Interesting and a bit odd! It immediately jumped from a dramatic fantasy showdown to an analysis of fantasy market forces complete with population growth charts and GDP over time and I am not exactly sure what genre it is trying to be? It is a bit overwhelming to jump into at chapter one! The Demon Queen seems like a fun and practical character but unfortunately, I do not think she is the main character and the standard naive and flustered Hero is much less interesting! I would rather read a manga about how the ruthless and practical Demon Queen outsmarted everybody else, it is a shame that she is the Love Interest and not the hero! Or at least that is the feeling I got from the first chapter or two?

What you watched/read: The Asterisk War
How was it? Not really sure what to think based off of episode 1. I might watch one or two more to see if it plays out similarly to Chivalry of a Failed Knight or not. The two shows and their concepts are pretty much identical to one another, so we'll see if Asterisk has anything new to offer. Both the male and female protagonist are identical to Chivalry, even down to their powers and abilities. So it's too early to say if this show plays out with an alternative premise or follows the same patterns.

What you read: Soredemo Boku wa Kimi ga Suki / But, even so, I love you still.
How was it?

Well, definitely very far from anything I normally read! The art is really nice, and the writing is good too(, though the bit where the protagonist hit a raunchy part of the novel Nobuta suggested to him felt kind of uncomfortable and that didn't seem to be the intention behind it). On the other hand, pages 45 and 46 were really poignant. I didn't like the hook for the next chapter very much, even though I knew from the summary that that was the plot of the manga, pfft.

I don't know if I'll keep reading! I'm not good at putting comics or books down, but I'm not hugely interested in continuing with it. Either way, I don't feel like it's something I would be "fannish" about, even if I continued to read and enjoyed it.

I'm definitely intrigued; which surprises me a little because the setting isn't the most innovative thing and I'm more into reading fantasy-type stuff than something contemporary (as it seems to be at the moment, no magic whatsoever!), but there were enough hooks in the first chapter to make me want to know what exactly had happened at this school before!

I think I thought about watching it once? Gonna live comment

OP was awesome even if the lyrics were kinda random (not Gatchaman level tho)

Aww the heroine is adorable.

Oh a cool dark and mysterious girl are they gonna be a ship

Is this Romi? Nice! Gonna check who else is in the cast

HOLY CARP THERES ISHIDA and also Seki and Aya Hirano

Im gonna ship them I can feel it.

THE MAIN GIRL IS SO GAY she has a boyfriend tho :/

Oh god they are smoking and drinking while on the train this is wrong

The art style is kinda weird with the huge mouths and high foreheads but it's something you can easily get used to.

No Nana never trust a girl whose name is Junko

She did his laundry, cleaned the room and made dinner? Clearly he doesn't deserve her come on

The Nanas are both cute again, also the renting guy ships them too apparently

OHH

WHO CARES IF THEYRE TALKING ABOUT THE RENT

Is this shojo-ai? I don't think the MAL tags said shojo-ai? Because wow they are so gay

Also the ending is really pretty too

Okay finished! I liked it so maybe I'll check out more when I have time!

(I'm pretty sure everyone and their mom saw this series 10 years ago and I sound silly now :D)

What you watched/read: Bradherley's Coach
How was it? Would not really recommend! It's basically one of those manga where it's all 'oh no but What If People Were Total Shits!!!!' and dumps in a lot of explicit content in some kind of substitution for a critique on human nature. It's not dramatic enough to be artistic, or shocking enough to repulse; even if the art is quite well done, every single character is bland to the point that even if Really Bad Things are happening to them, I can't really bring myself to care.

Also it's short! So I read through all 8 chapters in the hope that it'd get better (here's a spoiler, it did not). If you're interested in the kind of concept that this manga uses, I'd recommend reading through the entry for SCP 231 or even the classic story 'The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas' instead! Whether you agree with the things happening, in terms of pure execution, I do find those MUCH better - the obviously fictional nature of them makes it easier to suspend general disbelief, and they all sort of leave out enough that you can imagine most of the horror or figure out exactly what is happening, so it tends to hit harder.

In Bradherley's Coach, everything bad that happens is detailed out it's depicted in a 'imagine!!! this could've happened!!!!!!' kind of way, except there's so little substantiation for what is keeping it together that I found it nearly impossible to believe. Plus, I don't know about other people, but the whole time I was thinking 'it's happening around WWII right? this is actually really nothing much and small scale compared to the ACTUAL REAL LIFE atrocities inflicted by lots of other parties active during this time period, so I don't get the horror'. I think it'd have worked better if it was purely fantasy and not set in any real world time period.

ANYWAY AS IT TURNS OUT, I can go on a lot about STUFF I DO NOT LIKE, so I will leave this here.

I will also take 8315 and guide10!

How was it? ... Wow, okay. So I'm not opposed to the sort of fantasy-romcom-light novel... Thing this series had going on, in fact I've even liked a couple before, but this was just bad. The premise was okay (a guy is living under a curse where he can only select A or B choices like a video game and then a girl shows up, you know how it is) but all the choices were just... Horrifically, painfully unfunny and more than that creepy that I was cringing through them. The character designs were unappealing, the music was boring, and I would not recommend this one in the slightest.

How was it? For me and my trashy, predictable shoujo tastes, it was excellent. The story is laid out like every other shoujo manga: girl has secretly had crush on boy since middle school, girl and boy never spoke before, boy and girl enroll in the same high school (*gasp*), boy saves girl at opportune moment, boy and girl have small, heart-fluttering interactions with each other throughout the story. The art is adorable and basketball is involved, so I will definitely be continuing this one.

Soul Eater is one of my faves. The nose bleed thing dies out as the series progresses. Death the Kid is a character after my own heart because he has serious OCD issues and is afflicted by the madness of Order.

My other fave (though he barely gets any screen time) is Death scythe Justin Law. He's a priest who nabbed all of the souls he needed to become a death scythe at around 16? His form is the guillotine, and he wears earbuds to drown out everyone around him. He's fun. Apparently in the manga his arc takes a darker turn. He's kind of like a blond Wolfwood.

How was it? The art style was great/beautiful, but the synopsis and the plot was terrible. Even with it being a One chapter, one-shot, it didn't really make sense to be other then the fact one girl liked the other but that girl died because of an illness and wasn't able to express herself. It went to some other detail but I honestly believe if it was longer it might have been a better story.
