Good day, everyone - and welcome to day seventeen* of our anniversary celebrations! Did you know that seventeen is the only prime number you can get by adding four consecutive primes together? It's true! If you add 2, 3, 5, and 7 together, you get 17 - and all five numbers are prime!

...no? You didn't know that? You hate the very thought? Hmm. I think my icebreakers might need some work. That said, they do provide us with a great way to introduce today's topic:

That's right! Today is a day to talk about your favorite characters from your favorite obscure media! Post that character you love - the one you never see people talk about, the one from a canon you're not sure people have even heard of - and let us know one strange, obscure fact about them. Then find other people's characters and tell us something obscure about them, too! Don't know everything there is to know about a character? Then tell us something you think is true about them! Did you know that his true name (Solomon), combined with his position as a scholar, a jewish man, and an unlikely reading of an acrostic of his name, led to a misguided belief that he was the biblical King Solomon? I was actually going to include this for two truths and a lie, but I couldn't come up with a good lie for her, haha. Did you know Emma from The Promised Neverland's dream is to ride a giraffe? And (mild spoilers for The Promised Neverland) at the end, she actually succeeds in doing so!

Which is why I'm going to tell you a fact of my own about Emma: she's actually the long-lost sister of a character from a different anime about children's stories and mysterious authors, Ahiru from Princess Tutu!

Since The Lost Canvas, Omega, Soul of Gold, and the newer CG animated series made the Saint Seiya franchise a lot more well known, it's not really an obscure thing anymore, but I have a weird theory about the Saint of Andromeda.

Since Andromeda was a so-called sacrifice, and Spoiler for those who don't know Shun becomes the vessel of Hades in the original series, my theory is that the Saint of Andromeda is always the chosen vessel of Hades. Meaning, I feel that in The Lost Canvas, Alone was the possible Saint of Andromeda in the previous Holy War, however Hades' followers found him first, before he could realize or achieve becoming a Saint.

I have this issue where I can't really tell if something's obscure or not - ~~it's called not talking to people enough~~ - so I'm usually pretty bad at this stuff.

UUHHHH I used to like Gippal a lot, from Final Fantasy X-2. He was more serious than he'd let on. Apparently, he was childhood friends with some of the main characters, Rikku & Brother. There was other stuff but I don't remember which one were real and which were fanfic jdslkjf

this is my big abstract nerd moment but ginko from mushishi (or more accurately the japan that he wanders around in) is stuck in some sort of perpetual time distortion mushi-fugue, and that's the reason why he has slacks, a polo shirt, and a trenchcoat when everybody else is livin' in remote villages and tending fields in yukata.

... mushishi is an incredibly soft and slow show and i love watching an episode while i'm winding down for bed. the vibes are gently surreal.

I GUESS Fate/Zero kind of counts as a more well known canon, albeit, I'm the only person here (apart from Kari) who really cares about Emiya Kiritsugu, S O. I'm going to use this as an opportunity to talk about My Husband.

There's official art of Kiritsugu backing his wife on piano, and I headcanon that he has all these talents he's middling to pretty good at, but nothing noteworthy or astounding-- due to the nature of his origin (check his wiki, pls do not make me explain dumb Nasu lore.) So he's decent at things like piano, cooking, sewing, in general practical utility skills.

Hello yes my favorite obscure magical girl/boy series that will never get an anime is Alice 19th by Yuu Watase, aka the author of Ceres Celestial Legend and Fushigi Yuugi. tl;dr people can use magic runes called Lotis Words that are like uhhh literally magic words that appear in the air to fight and there's also the evil version of them called the Maram Words. The protagonist is this super shy girl named Alice and her older sister is this girl Mayura who upstages her all the time and Alice accidentally chucks Mayura into ~*~the darkness~*~ with Maram Words when they have a huge argument. They spend most of the series training Alice and unlocking all 24 Lotis Words so Mayura can be unbrainwashed and taken home and there's a dumb love quadrangle but I found it a v endearing lil shoujo series overall (despite some of the squicky tropes of the time). And it had a creative use of having the magic power literally be words/runes lol.

....anyway. Did You Know: all the Lotis Words and also Mayura's name are based on Sanskrit words and phrases!

I think Zombie-loan would count as a rather obscure canon. There's a character called Shiba Reiichirou there (see icon) who is a rather interesting character. At first he seems like this really funny guy and a main characters' best friend but then he turns out to be so much more. He is also voiced by Junichi Suwabe.

Okay, so SPOILERS

He is one of the first bigger villains of the series and he ends up dying three times during the series and coming back twice.

In honor of this I'm taking bored01 as a choice card and a yellow crayon.

Ellen from The Witch's House is a very old witch who still looks like a seven year old girl. As a result, despite having the intelligence of a very old witch, she still has a child's taste - she loves sweets, and hates bitter and sour flavors. She only eats cakes and other sweets. If she had access to them, she would adore milk teas and things of that nature. This also extends to other aspects of her life - she tends to like simple, childish things.

kokoro connect is considered obscure because not many people read the light novels

but inaba himeko canonically has not just one older brother, but two, and that's a fact that never comes up in the anime or manga at all.

I personally think that Dragon Knights is pretty obscure. So I'll talk about one of my faves from that, Gil. It's been a long time since I read the series so I'm not sure I have any especially obscure facts about him on hand but I'll lay down a fact anyway. Or uh, a fact as I remember it, I can't lay my hands on the volume right now to reverify but this is how I remember it being.

He was a human that was experimented on and turned into a demon who would shape shift into a monstrous cat. After he was rescued by one of the other demons for a while Gil had to relearn how to use human speech. Apparently he used to meow instead for a bit.

Once again back on my (jj) stuff. There's not a lot of series where I got real into the side material and got stuff.

I have no idea how into side material Yuri!!! on Ice fans were, but one of my fave JJ facts is that his parents were a professional skating pair and are, obviously, retired. Plus, he has a younger brother and younger sister who both skate in juniors competitively, too! He's also apparently attending Toronto University and is a top-tier student. I know, unbelievable to me, too.

For something different, in Sk8 langa loves kisse (source is a twitter link). you know like goodbye, greeting, take care, have a good day types? the types you'd give anytime. and reki doesn't! and this is just damn adorable to me.

Hmm Hmm. Since SVSSS S2 isnt out and I dont think people have read the books/seen anything past the first season, I find it hilarious one of the late series characters (we'll call him airplane) is horrible at sexy times. With him being one of the canon BL characters, I just find that kind of hilarious? Especially since the person he ends up with is like this big, dark, stoic guy and he is like like ".... airplane is bad at love making" and idk thats cute. Was mentioned in a comment by the writer, so I figured it wasnt a very known factoid.

I know lots of facts for games and series but nothing is obscure imo. Some of the things I can think of its not even like "not very known" haha. Um... Silent Hill its snow not ash, and not based off a town in PA. I guess thats only a fact if your not a fan of the series, but once the movie came out, those two movie verse ideas became facts for everyone, even though it isnt true at all. And while the idea of a town raining ashe all the time that it looks like snow sounds cool, thats not what the game was about. Also uh... Snakes corpse is in a wall in SH3? there hidden factoid number 3. What that isnt about a specific character? well :B shucks..

i'm here for these silent hill facts. yeah the movie changed a lot of things to make it work better for hollywood which is fine, but uhhh not how it went! kind of reminds me of how pyramidhead and the nurses are the face of the series despite not really playing that big of a role.

idk how obscure Zoids is but I never see anyone talking about it, so here's some random shit about Liger Zero from Zoids New Century Zero.

It's a special type of Zoid called an Ultimate X, which means it's smarter than other Zoids and can learn from every battle it participates in. This is because it has something called an Organoid System that's attached to its Core (a squishy, round structure that serves as a Zoid's combined heart/brain), and resembles a sort of metallic dinosaur skull holding the Core in its jaws.

There were also Organoids in the previous Zoids series, Chaotic Century, but whether or not these are directly related to the Organoid Systems in New Century isn't clarified in canon. Fandom whips itself into a frenzy coming up with ideas connecting the two series and trying to decide which Organoid from CC turned into which Ultimate X in NC0. We bring this on ourselves for expecting substance out of 20-minute toy commercials.

I absolutely love Zoids, specifically New Century Zero, and I'm heartbroken that it seems to be forgotten in this day and age. I've been itching to rewatch the series, but actually finding it is a pain in the butt.

It's an older canon, but I like to think that it was (and still is) fairly obscure or forgotten. I'm talking about Azumanga Daioh, and one Sakaki, who is the tallest of the six main girls in the series. She's the softest one of the group, always wanting to pet cats, but finding the worst luck and getting bit, or something else happening to her. She doesn't speak as much either, often thinking a lot before speaking, or getting easily lost in thought. This has caused all sorts of incidents in the canon, even being completely oblivious to the fact that another girl has a crush on her. She even has dreams about the young prodigy Chiyo-chan's father being a cat. No explanation why, just. He's a cat. A tall creepy looking cat with psychic powers.

But you know what? After trying to pet the local asshole cat and not getting to pet any other cats, she finally gets a rare island cat to follow her home. Who also lets her pet it.

Relatedly, I'm grabbing cats01 and a gray crayon.

i think all dogs should love her just as karmic compensation
